1. Connect a supported controller
AnyPS5 reads controllers recognized by SDL. The first recognized controller is used; controllers can be connected or disconnected while a title runs. Sticks and analog triggers are passed through. On Xbox-layout controllers, A/B/X/Y correspond to Cross/Circle/Square/Triangle, and LB/RB and LT/RT correspond to L1/R1 and L2/R2. PlayStation controllers forward the touchpad click, but not finger touch coordinates. Upstream controller specification ↗
2. Create anyps5-input.ini for keyboard and mouse
With no configuration file, built-in keyboard and mouse bindings apply. To override specific actions, create anyps5-input.ini next to the generated game executable, not beside the Relinker. Set ANYPS5_INPUT_CONFIG to point to another file if needed. Keyboard overrides do not disable game-controller bindings.
3. Copy a valid configuration example
# anyps5-input.ini
Cross = KEY:F
Cross = KEY:Space
LeftStickLeft = KEY:J
LeftStickRight = KEY:L
LeftStickUp = KEY:I
LeftStickDown = KEY:K
Square = MOUSE:Left
R2 = MOUSE:Right
ToggleMouse = MOUSE:MiddleHere, Cross accepts F or Space, the left stick uses I/J/K/L, and mouse buttons control Square and R2. Actions not listed retain their built-in bindings. The lines come from the official mapping example ↗.
4. Understand action and input syntax
| Input | Syntax | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Keyboard | KEY:SDLName | Cross = KEY:Return |
| Mouse button | MOUSE:Button | Square = MOUSE:Left |
| Mouse wheel | WHEEL:Direction | Options = WHEEL:Up |
Each line follows Action = Type:Value. Action names are case-insensitive; # and ; start comments. The first mapping for an action replaces its defaults, and further lines add alternatives. Duplicate mappings are ignored. Save the file as UTF-8 (a BOM is accepted).
Supported actions include Cross, Circle, Triangle, Square, L1/R1/L2/R2, L3/R3, Options, D-pad directions, both sticks' directions, TouchLeft, TouchRight, ToggleMouse, and ToggleFullscreen. The authoritative complete action list is in INPUT_MAPPING.md ↗.
5. Resolve input configuration errors
An invalid line reports the file and line number and stops input initialization. If ANYPS5_INPUT_CONFIG points to a file that cannot be read, AnyPS5 reports an error. Correct the named line or path; remove the override to return to the built-in mapping. See the troubleshooting guide for startup and runtime errors.
